Need help. I have an Inno3D GTX650 (stock clock) side-by-side with an Asus GTX660Ti (factory OC), on an ECS X58B-A2 Black V1.1, i7-920 (stock clock), 18GB RAM (stock clock), Windows 7 x64 Professional SP1, and Nvidia WHQL 306.97 driver. I run three instances of BOINC 7.0.28 x64: one each to control the GTX650 and GTX660Ti (running 6 hours/day); one to control the CPU cores (running 24x7). All three instances have the proper cc_config.xml entries to restrict use only for the resources each control. Problem: whenever I want to run only my GTX650 (by enabling "Run Always" at the proper BOINC Manager), per GPU-Z 0.6.6 after 2 or 3 minutes the GTX660Ti GPU Core and Memory clocks start to also wind up causing heat and high TDP draw when it is not desired (0% GPU load). How can I make my GTX660Ti stay at idle state so I can run my GTX650 24x7? Thanks. Use the core client configuration file (cc_config.xml file) with either: <ignore_nvidia_dev>N</ignore_nvidia_dev> or the <exclude_gpu> option. The <ignore/> option will ignore the GPU outright, it won't be used on any project. The <exclude/> option can be used to fine tune usage, e.g. tell GPU 1 to be only used at projects A, C and E and GPU 2 only at projects B, D and F. |

Initially, all combinations of the BOINC flags/options did not appear to work to isolate the problem. This lead me to use the multiple instance approach for each resource (650, 660Ti, CPU). Through the process of elimination (and much patience), I have finally found the cause: World Community Grid - Help Conquer Cancer 7.05 (nvidia_hcc1). With all other projects removed from the BOINC managers, WCG running in GTX650 will drive up the GPU clocks of the GTX660Ti, and vice versa. I did this experiment three times, and in my setup WCG is the only project doing this behavior. Now that I have traced the cause of this problem, I can make the necessary corrections -- and I would still like to contribute to WCG. Thanks Jord, for your response and help. |
