Hi. When I first got the BOINC manager, I got the cannot connect to localhost error. I eventually figured out that it needs the client running. The only way I found to run it is to manually run the boinc.exe I found in program files. This results in a window always visible on the screen or minimised in the taskbar. Surely there is a way to run it either invisibly or as (another) icon in the notification area. Cheers. |

It's not intuative, but X (upper right hand corner) the program manager and it goes to the tray. Boinc V 7.4.36 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB NVidia 470 |

Thanks, but that doesn't help. I had figured out that much, but that only send the manager to tray, not the client. I expect others are managing to run the client invisibly somehow, I would like to know how. |

BOINC Manager automatically runs the BOINC daemon... if it isn't, I would reinstall BOINC. |

You can also install it as a system service, and then instruct it not to load the BOINC Manager with startup. Then it won't show in the system tray OR the taskbar until you load the manager. ![]() |
