I am running BOINC version 7.8.3 on Windows 10. I have BIONC installed as a service. Can I use a GPU or is there still a restriction on BOINC not being installed as a service?

The restriction is one that comes from the way Windows manages a GPU for any program is running as a service. Basically anything running as a service does not have full access to the "normal" GPU drivers, thus it is not BOINC that is preventing the use of the GPU but the operating system.

It still says this in the installer:
"Run applications under a privileged account. This provides increased protection from faulty applications, and on Windows, it will prevent the use of applications that use the graphics chip (GPU)."

To run it not as a service can I just set the service to manual and then run it by clicking on the executable or do I need to uninstall and reinstall?

Thanks

You'll need to uninstall & reinstall.
