Nvidia drivers between 364.47 through 365.19 have a buggy PTX to GPU machine code compiler which causes them to miscalculate in GPGPU loads including CUDA and OpenCL loads. See http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=6775&nowrap=true for evidence. Kepler and Fermi cards are not affected because they use different PTX to GPU machine code compilers tailored to their different internal machine codes. The math bug has been fixed in Nvidia's internal development driver, but the fix came in too late to be included in released driver 365.19. The next driver will fix the math bug. |

Jacob Klein has been pursuing two - now apparently unrelated - driver issues with NVidia. Both started with driver version 364.47: Miscalculations - invalid results - at PrimeGrid. Fixed in v365.19 Driver restarts and BSODs at POEM. Fixed in v368.22 No other BOINC projects are known to be affected. Earlier drivers (up to and including v362.00) are clean for both projects Later drivers (starting with v368.22) are clean - until the next breakage, of course. The advice (and it may possibly apply to Windows only) is to avoid the intermediate drivers if you run either of those two specific projects. |
