so, I´m trying to get my Geforce GT730 to work with BOINC since a few days now. I´m running Lubuntu: Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 15.10 Release: 15.10 Codename: wily I installed boinc with apt and the nvidia drivers like this: - sudo apt-get install nvidia-352 nvidia-settings nvidia-cuda-dev nvidia-cuda-toolkit nvidia-modprobe - Blacklisted the nouveau driver in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf - Reboot - sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client stop - sudo nvidia-modprobe - sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start boinc is recognizing the card but it is not using it. Logs don´t seem to report anything. I´m running this machine only per network via putty and have only the boinc-client running. I connect with my boinc-manager on my windows PC to see the processes. What I found out and what probably is the reason for the issue: My x-server seems to be not working anymore. I don´t know why but as I googled I think it was after the nvidia driver installation. The machines were already running a week before I installed the GPU. sudo xmessage foo Error: Can't open display: :0.0 Has anyone had this problem? Can´t Boinc use the GPU because the xserver has a problem? Edit: I´m only running the seti@home project. regards Tobi |

Tobi hi, welcome to boinc forum. boinc is recognizing the card but it is not using it. Logs don´t seem to report anything. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6276 may have some basic suggestions, but the most important are the first 40 lines of the event log. If you are installing from the standard ubuntu repos the boinc version will be a little old. Later versions - which resolve several GPU issues and give better diagnostics by setting the coproc_debug flag availabler from locutusofborg PPA My x-server seems to be not working anymore. I don´t know why but as I googled I think it was after the nvidia driver installation. The machines were already running a week before I installed the GPU. hmm, i think i would want to get the GPU and X working first before boinc. If you could give a link to the host, the project scheduler logs are sometimes helpful. |
