Greetings:

I may very well be in the market for a new GPU soon.

I would like to know what manufacturers of GPUs BOINC crunchers have had the best luck with.

I've recently had serious issues with an ASUS GTX-670 (3 RMAs later I still don't have a working card), so am interested in knowing whether other manufacturers, EVGA or VisionTek, as examples, are historically better able to withstand the heavy use BOINC will put them to.

I have an old VisionTek Radeon HD5750 that is still crunching along fine. However, VisionTek has informed me that if their cards, which normally come with a lifetime warranty, are used for 'folding', that will void the warranty.

Please note that I'm not trying to re-ignite the age-old NVidia versus ATI flame wars here. I'm looking for one manufacturer or technology approach versus another.

I would like to know which manufacturer's GPUs you've had trouble with and which you've had perform flawlessly.

Also, are there any specifics that should be looked for when selecting a GPU for this purpose as well as gaming?

So you're not allowed to play anything using OpenGL on it then either? As that's using the exact same hardware that OpenCL is using.

I'm running an EVGA GTX 960 and GTX 750Ti with no problems thus far. Both barely have their fans on while running Einstein and GPUGrid.

So don't tell them you used it for DC'ing...

Anyways, I have not had much luck with ASUS products either. That is a company that tends to have love/hate relationships.

MSI video cards have worked for me but I would classify them as a mid to low end category.

EVGA and PNY has been pretty solid for me.

Gigabyte wasn't so great but that was a used card, so can't give them a fair report.

Zotac card was an old 210 and it was merely "OK" for what it was.

Jaton cards have been low end like 8400 GS and 210. Other than their fans being low end garbage, they run good.

Galaxy cards I have used ran great until a capacitor swells. So, keep them cool and clean and they should be ok.

There are probably others I have used, but mostly I tend to lean towards the PNY and EVGA right now.
