Is there a portable version of Boinc or a way to install it and run it from a USB disk? I have only found some really old versions circa 2008/2009. What I would like is to have Boinc with the tasks on a USB drive that I could in theory plug in into any PC that I have admin rights, run it and the work would continue where the previous PC has stopped. Is this possible? I have few laptops that I am using interchangeably and my work and uni pc. The reason why I want the task to be continued to another PC is because sometimes the task may expire until the next time I am using that particular pc / laptop. Edit: BTW i think i should have posted this under client |

I have a similar situation and am looking for guidance. On my computer I have Windows 7 and Windows 10 Tech preview installed, and switch back and forth. Is there a way to store the task data on a mapped NAS device, so that no matter which OS I'm using, the tasks can get completed? |

BOINC on Windows isn't very portable at the moment. You can use this post to get somewhere close to portable. You could use the normal BOINC installer and put the data directory in portable/remote media, say USB flash drive or that NAS. You'll need to make sure the media always gets the same drive letter. You might want to not run BOINC automatically at login so that Windows has time to actually mount the drive before BOINC starts. |
