Hi, I have been running BOINC Manager for a few years now. The last time I tried to upgrade BOINC Manager, I got permissions errors when running BOINC Manager (error -1008). This upgrade happened a few months ago and due to lack of free time, I have not looked into the problem. I THINK that was version 7.2.42. Today, I decided to try to upgrade to the latest version of BOINC manager. I am trying to install BOINC Manager 7.4.36 on an Intel Core i7 based Mac running Mac OS X 10.10. When I try to run the installer, at the very end of the process, the installer tells me that the installation has failed. Unfortunately, it doesn't give me any other information. Can anyone out there help me figure out how/why the installation is failing and how to fix it? Thanks, Jason |

OK. I figured out the problem. First step, when running an installer on Mac OS X, you can view an installer log. When running the installer, the Window menu has a Installer Log option. This will display a dialog that displays extra messages during the installation process. Very handy. From that I found the error. Something along the lines of /private/tmp/PKInstallSandox.XXXXX doesn't exist. I did a bit of digging in the terminal and for some reason I had lost /private/tmp. I recreated /var/tmp and I was able to install BOINCManager. |
