SIMAP will leave BOINC by end of 2014 SIMAP is currently moving towards new algorithms for similarity calculations and scoring. After extensive tests and evaluations during the last months it turned out that the best way to continue SIMAP will be to use dedicated local hardware in our institute. SIMAP will therefore use BOINC only to maintain the current SIMAP database until the end of 2014. BOINC clients for the new SIMAP database will not be released and there will be no workunits for SIMAP after 2014. After 10 very successful years of SIMAP within BOINC this decision was not an easy one for us. However, we thank all users for their support in the past and in the upcoming last period until the end of the year.

Just a reminder there are only 3 1/2 weeks left to crunch this project before it closes. Shall we send Simap off with a major crunch-fest? The Knights Who Say Ni! made this Project of the Month for December.
(Sorry, I couldn't bump the previous thread for unknown reasons.)

I'm game! I've suspended work fetch for all the other projects, except the ones that run on the GPU. I have some Einstein units to finish off, but after that it's SIMAP all the way.

That's a mixed bag; the more people that switch over to SIMAP, the shorter the work will last... Very sad to see this long-standing and versatile project go, I hope that maybe there's some way (perhaps with all the extra crunchers) that they might reconsider their decision to end computing with BOINC.

The last workunits for SIMAP are currently distributed. We assume about 5 days of work distribution left. Beyond these, there will be no more work in this project. Thanks to all of you for crunching protein similarities.

Best wishes
