Not so good...

SIMAP is currently moving towards new algorithms for similarity calculations and scoring. After extensive tests and evaluations during the last months it turned out that the best way to continue SIMAP will be to use dedicated local hardware in our institute. SIMAP will therefore use BOINC only to maintain the current SIMAP database until the end of 2014. BOINC clients for the new SIMAP database will not be released and there will be no workunits for SIMAP after 2014. After 10 very successful years of SIMAP within BOINC this decision was not an easy one for us. However, we thank all users for their support in the past and in the upcoming last period until the end of the year.

Cheers
Thomas

It's always sad to hear of a project going away, but at least this one is sort of a positive end as their work will continue in other forms. Also, it didn't just flop or die slowly after being abandoned by its admins.

I think the saddest part about it, is that SIMAP has probably the most diverse bunch of official apps for every operating system you've never heard of. Also, it's one of three that I have been able to rely on to keep my few meager PowerPC macs crunching.

Which are the other two? - I guess simap is the only one with resonable runtimes for a G3.

Moo! Wrapper and Enigma are the other two I rely on and have good runtimes; Einstein, MilkyWay, SETI, and Yoyo also still have PPC apps but they run pretty long, even on my G5. Moo! is pretty nice, because they even have optimized clients for the various flavours of PPC processor.
