i'm new here so hello everyone.I don't understand how the resource usage works.I have seti, predictor, climatepredictor all set to 100% usage,i've seen screen shots where you can give more to others like 600/100/100.But what's the point if two of them pause and one uses all the resources.Do i have this right. What should i have them set to.Seti in my case will take the longest, should i give it more resource or leave them all at 100%.Boinc is set to switch apps. every 60 minutes.

I'm going to make the assumption that your computer has one processor in opposed to two or more processors or virtual (Pentium hyperthreading for example). Since you have only one then BOINC is going to use all of the processor's available resources to crunch for one project at a time (60 min. for Seti, then 60 for Pred., then 60 to Climate, and then cycle back to Seti. - at resource shares of 100 each). Here's a link to the BOINC Wiki that goes into detail (The Wiki can also answer most questions sought for concerning BOINC). A person with a multi processor box (or virtual [hyperthreading will show a split of 50/50 in a Window's task manager]) can have two or more projects (or work units within the same project) processing at the same time. It would not be efficient to have the processor trying to "crunch" 2 or more applications at the same time with one processor.
BOINC itself has the capabilities to make adjustments such as switching over to Earliest Deadline First mode if it thinks a project is not going to finish in time (overcommited). When it believes the work queued can be completed within the deadlines then it will switch itself back to the normal Round Robin mode. IMO you probably should leave it be and see if it gets the work completed on its own.

First, Boinc is not as neat about time slices as you may think. It follows resource share in the long term, but it can look quite chaotic over a short period of time. The 60 minute switching is a maximum time between point when Boinc checks if it should change projects, it also does so whenever a WU is completed or Boinc is restarted. If doesn't necessarily change projects.

Boinc keeps a record of short term and long term debt. Basically the short term debt is how much crunch time a project is owed. Whichever project is owed the most time, when the debt is checked, is the project that gets to crunch a WU. This can temporarily be overridden should a WU need to meet a due date. In the example of 600/100/100 one of the project will get to crunch 6 time more than the other two project.

Long term debt is use to determine what project to DL work from.

For more detailed information read about the Work Scheduler.

thank you all for helping me understand. And you are right it's a p-4 2.8 without hyperthreading. So now i see why it will pause others. So 100% per each project is fine.
