My Foniks node has a problem if I select "Show Graphics".

To an impatient person, it would appear that the machine freezes. This is not, in fact, the case, it just runs extremely slowly. It can take 1-2 minutes for it to put up the Process Manager after pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del for example.

I do not normally run the graphics, but I have done without incident in the past. Usually when attaching to a new project, I have a quick look, and once having done so, close it again.

The only reason I noticed this now is because the new version of QMC's client has a bug which fails to display the progress bar in the manager, but does show it in the graphics, so I went to look and bam!

Whatever project I now try to look at, the result is the same.

I know I have looked at the MalariaControl.net screen saver, (and played with turning the mozzie cam on for example), so this was all working in early March.

I have changed this machine to the newer 5.4.9 core, whereas my other node here is still running 5.2.13 and shows the graphics fine. I am not saying that is the cause, but it is a significant change since the last known operational state.

I recall there was an issue with certain video cards, but assume as this system has worked before, this does not apply here. In case, the card is an NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX400, I believe it has 32MB but am not sure. I have tried rolling back the driver, but this had no effect, so am currently on NVIDIA's most recent driver.

There have been no hardware changes in the time frame.

Software wise, I keep the machine up to date with patches etc. I have installed IE7 a month or so back, but uninstalling it has not made any difference. I also upgraded QuickTime, but doubt that is relevent.

I can still view streaming video, and mpegs for example, so I doubt it is a hardware fault.

Any suggestions?
