The last versions of BOINC I have downloaded opened the DOS Command window when starting causing some starting problems. I just un-installed the last version shown on your site for Windows. I presently have WinXP-SP3 Pro 32-bit on this Dell Dimension C521 computer. When I would close the DOS Command window sometimes the program would close. When I didn't, the program would run most of the time. The last version would sometimes have the projects vanish from the task tab. I'd have to re-start the program to get them back, and sometimes have to RESET the projects. Why is the BOINC Manager opening the DOS Command window when it starts, and why does the program have the tasks vanish from the TASK tab, and why does BOINC need to open the DOS COMMAND window now when it starts? These problems never used to happen. Additionally! What is going to happen now that Microsoft has decided to abandon those of us using WinXP? Many of which can't afford to purchase new computers. I'm testing an upgrade to my computer to try to keep it for a time till I could try to get a new computer. I am going to try to upgrade my graphics, and if successful install Win 7 Pro 64-bit in a second drive space. Making my computer a dual operating system machine, so I can continue to volunteer for BOINC, and other projects, and keep WinXP-SP3, to allow play of my games, and other computing chores that need WinXP-SP3. Thanks in Advance for Your Time, And Assistance in Solving My new Problems with BOINC.
Please pardon any typo's. I'm having trouble hitting the correct keys. I am using a spell-checker, but if I spell a word correctly even if it's the wrong word. It'll still be used if I don't see it first. Thank You for Your Time. Lightsttn1

The last versions of BOINC I have downloaded

It's really not that difficult to tell which version of BOINC you presently have, when it's still on the system, by opening BOINC Manager->Help->About BOINC Manager. It also shows in the lower right corner in advanced view which version it is.

And else it'll give a clue as to which version it is in the installer name. Just saying that 'the last versions of BOINC' just won't cut it as we've been going through quite a lot of versions the past weeks. In the last 6 weeks alone: 7.2.39, 7.2.42, 7.3.8, 7.3.9, 7.3.10, 7.3.11

So which version did you see this with, and if an ALPHA, why didn't you report it to the BOINC Alpha email list, so that the developers can directly contact you on this problem?

Hi, You didn't read my message. I was saying that every time I start BOINC. It starts a Command window now, and in the last I think 3 versions that I have used. Why does it start a COMMAND window? DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN WHEN I REFER TO A COMMAND WINDOW? A COMMAND WINDOW IS A WINDOW YOU OPEN TO ENTER DOS COMMANDS FOR DOS COMMAND BASED PROGRAMS LIKE THOSE WITHIN WINDOWS 3.1.AN IMPORTANT NOTE HERE! I AM RUNNING WINDOWS XP-SP3 PRO 32-BIT FULLY UPDATED. Please fix the program so it doesn't start A COMMAND window every time the BOINC program starts. PLEASE NOTE HERE "THIS MESSAGE ISN'T ASKING THE VERSION." IT IS STATING THAT EVERY TIME I START THE BOINC MANAGER PROGRAM(I'M PRESENTLY RUNNING BOINC MANAGER VERSION 7.0.64(X86). IT STARTS A COMMAND WINDOW. THAT SHOULD NOT HAPPEN UNLESS THE PROGRAM IS RUNNING IN DOS MODE. THAT'S NOT LIKELY.
Please pardon any typo's. I'm having trouble hitting the correct keys. I am using a spell-checker, but if I spell a word correctly even if it's the wrong word. It'll still be used if I don't see it first. Thank You for Your Time. Lightsttn1

Since you deliberately want to post in an illegible manner, by posting both in bold and in all CAPS, you are making it difficult for someone to read what you write. Me? I am not even going to try anymore. For the bit that I read, wasn't very friendly. So have fun with solving your problem.

I don't fully understand your reply here. Am I doing something wrong that is causing the text to be shown for you in a way that makes it hard for you to read? I select the font size drop down, and for some reason it doesn't say large, which is my selection. It repeatedly says Default. I am a somewhat vision impaired user, and my accessibility settings sometimes cause pages to act anomalous. Sorry, I can't see what you are seeing. Your pages aren't designed to work without problems when used by a handicapped user. I hope this reply doesn't show errantly for you. In the Font size, I have selected LARGE, but it is still saying Default. It should say LARGE per my setting. Please fix the pull-down to say LARGE, or show my selected setting, as it should. Otherwise it may cause my message replies, and or other to display errantly, or improperly because of what your page says after I make my selections before starting entering my message.
