It just occurred to me that most, if not all, of the projects qualify for tax-deductible contributions. I am donating over 99% percent of five computers to four BOINC projects. How/where would I calculate a value to put on my 1040 Schedule A next year? If BOINC were to provide (and advertise) a printable screen, web URL, etc. that calculates some annual value recognized by the IRS, based on each user's actual credits, it could substantially boost participation including corporate networks. Everywhere I have seen this question the answer ends up being basically no. While the work should be deductable there is no way to quantify it that will satisfy the IRS. So if you are serious about it consult a tax professional and they may be able to come up with something specific to your situation that would satisfy the IRS. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
