At his point, (Monday after Christmas, New Years break) one can only hope that the project has NOT been abandoned forever!

It is possible.

When I first discovered the outage, I did as I often do, I suspect Collatz and shifted my GPU processing to other projects.

This is pretty much the longest outage I've seen with Collatz.

I hope he's OK.

Slicker typically lets the Collatz at Home community know when there is a severe problem that takes the project down for an extended period of time - even if it is a brief message on the home page of the web site. The fact that no one has heard anything for ~10 days is rather worrisome. I too hope that nothing is wrong with Slicker.

Slicker frequently posts information about extended outages of Collatz at Home on the Collatz Conjecture forum at www.setiusa.us. You can find the threads at http://www.setiusa.us/forumdisplay.php?19-Collatz-Conjecture

Poked around a bit and didn't see any discussion of the ongoing extended outage. Bummer.

There is a problem with a change in IP address to DS-Tunnel from my provider at SRBase. I need more time to figure out how to get it running again.

CPDN main web site is available again.

Hi Chaps,

I have just this minute put the website back online.

We had a DDOS attack which effectively meant that we had many many many connections to the site simultaneously, trying to insert data into the website database and trying to guess passwords.
The attack started on ~22 December and ended when I gave up and switched her off on Christmas eve.

I restored the site from a backup prior to the attack, just to be sure.
If you notice anything odd about the site, please do let me know.

Jonathan.

Einstein is having server problems - mostly related to UPLOADS possibly some download problems as well.
Full detail here: Uploads disabled

EDIT:
Updated info from Bernd Machenschalk @ Einstein
Scheduler etc. will remain turned off and no more work will be sent out until the filesystem check has finished.

Einstein uploads are actually kinda-sorta working. Here's advice from a Forum Admin (from the thread Dr. Who Fan provided). Takes longer than he suggests, about 20+ minutes to upload about 50 of 'em.
Open BOINC Manager at the transfers tab. Select them all by clicking the first one and then shift-clicking the last one. Click the "retry now" button. If the process stalls, or if a significant number of the entries reverts to "retrying in ..." just click the retry button again. Rinse and repeat until the entire list has cleared. This might take several minutes for a particularly long list of stuck transfers but the entire list cam be cleared this way.

Bernd and Oliver have installed a new upload server for Einstein. They say it's working better than ever. They are still syncing the old data with the new server, so validators and assimilators are offline for the moment. They are posting frequent updates (not frequent enough for some people) in their own Technical News forum.

Down? It's been down for the last week.

They're onto it now:

Hi guys,

Sorry for the late info but, as you've probably noticed, we had to take Albert@Home offline after we experienced a severe filesystem issue with one of our servers that's shared between Einstein@Home and this project. While most services have been restored for Einstein@Home (which always has top priority) we couldn't yet bring back Albert@Home. We'll try hard to get this done by the end of the week.

Stay tuned,
Oliver

Yup -- it was up for about a week (with no explanation of the outage).

It went down again last night.

I'm wondering if Slicker is getting tired of the effort trying to keep it running.

I would be disappointed to see Collatz disappear. I would be surprised, too, as Slicker indicated that he had been putting "hundreds" of hours of effort trying to solve incompatibility issues with the AMD GPUs running tasks under OpenCL. (I am sure that I failed to accurately describe the problem. Nonetheless, the fact remains that Slicker claims he is investing much time and energy into the project.) On the other hand, there was a fair amount of grousing about the last outage on the Collatz forum, and I wonder if that might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

By the way, BarryAZ, I saw you profiled at boinc.berkeley.edu. Congratulations!

Collatz is my last resort for >10 old ATI cards not accepted by other projects.
It has to live! (but this compatibility is crucial thing as I understand)

Interesting, I didn't realize they had profiled me.

I first starting doing SETI back in the old days -- 2001.

I still run some cycles of it.

As to Collatz -- I first started running it in the summer of 2009.

By the way, I think the Moorap.net project still supports older ATI cards -- at least back to 4650's.

I've been shifting over to nvidia cards and GPUGRID over the past year or so.
