Hello, I have a three-year-old Macbook Pro, running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.3. The processor is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7. The memory spec is 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. A few days ago I downloaded BOINC 7.0.65 from the webpage http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php . The download and install worked OK. Using BOINCManager, I have been running tasks from Milky Way and World Community Grid. I would like to run tasks from climateprediction.net . Likely you know that the BOINCManager sequence "Tools --> Attach project or account manager ..." does not work with climateprediction.net . The climate prediction folks have figured out a workaround by invoking the "boinc" client. Unfortunately, I think that the "boinc" client was not installed by the download. I know that I cannot find it on my disc. I am not an expert on the Mac file system, but I do know basic navigation of the file system, from either the Mac OS GUI or the Terminal utility. To check for simple errors, I uninstalled BOINC and redid the download/install. The result was the same -- no "boinc" client. Thanks for your work. Best wishes, Bill Glassmire |

July 4, 2013 Hello, I have resolved my instance of the problem "cannot attach to climateprediction.net". Message 49789 explains that it is enough to put a copy of the file account_climateprediction.net in the BOINC Data directory. I have an old copy of that file, I copied it into the new BOINC Data directory, and now BOINCManager is running a climateprediction.net task. I am still interested to know something about the situation with the executables "boinc", "boinccmd", and "BOINCManager", but only to satisfy curiosity and to understand better how BOINC works. Thanks for your help. Best wishes, Bill Glassmire |
