Michal – Maybe we could assist you better if we had some additional information concerning your BOINC Manger:
What version number, of the Manger are you using?

Which Projects are you processing for?

What computer system do you have and what is you Operating System on the computer?

Knowing these answers would help a lot.

Regards,
Tom

Hello Tom,

I am sorry, should know that.

My operating system is Windows XP, version of the manager is 4.45 and the projects I run are Einstein, Seti, Climate prediction, LHC and Protein prediction. Almost all of them except Cell

Maybe it is strange I am running so many but I must say I started with BOINC not so long ago.

Regards

Michal

Forgot to add - my computer is IBM ThinkPAD R51 - with 1.5MHZ centrino.

Michal – I’m at a lose for words and ideas on what advice and ideas you should try, but let me give you some experience that I’ve accumulated. BOINC Manager 4.45, which I am currently a subscriber of, operates without a problem of any sorts (graphics included) on SETI@Home and Einstein@Home for Microsoft’s XP, Operating System. As for your other Projects, I cannot attest to any personal experience, since I’ve never processed for them before.

I believe your “Possible” problem resides in your computer, but again, I’ve little experience with a ThinkPad or a Centrino, CPU. My best suggestion is; keep diligently monitoring this posting you have started and also place a posting on Einstein@Home’s forum at this following provided link, along with all the useful information you have within this posting, and see if you can receive an experienced user’s suggestion on a BOINC Project implementing a ThinkPad System.

Sorry Best I Can Do,
Tom

One thing to try is checking the windows screensaver settings. The blank time must be set to something even if you leave the checkmark off.

Another possiblity is if you are using an ATI or onboard graphics card, there is a known issue with them that should be fixed in newer apps (SETI and CPDN I think are the only ones compiled recently enough). But in this case it is unlikely that you would see exactly the same symptoms with all projects.

Thanks for this post. Yes I have got built in graphic controller (Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphic Controller.

But actually the screenserver which is running without the problems is only ProteinPredictor

PP@H does not have a screensaver yet. You should see the BOINC logo and a percent complete when it is active.

I too am having a screen saver problem. I'm running Boinc Manger 4.45 with the Einstein, LHC and SETI projects. For all three projects the screen saver is blank when it triggers after a period of inactivity. If I select Preview from the screensaver dialog window, then the graphics work correctly. Also, the graphics will show correctly when I select Show graphics in the BOINC Manager.

My system is a Dell Diemnsion 9100 running a dual core Pentium processor at 2.8 GHz. I have a Radeon X600 Graphics card with 256MB HyperMemory.

In the Screen Saver config dialog, the "Go to blank screen" is unchecked and the "Minutes until blank" is set to 30.

Is there some other setting that I'm missing? Any ideas?

I forgot to mention that I have same situation, in preview the screensaver is visible, same with "Show graphics" options.

The problem could be at least partly attributable to Einstein. The current "official" Einstein Windows APP (4.79) is a little behind BOINC 4.45; and, there is a graphics known bug related to running 4.79 with 4.45. A fix is in the Einstein Windows Beta App. You might want to check it out. The link is under More Information on the E@H hoe page.

The Radeon is an ATI based card. So, there are issues with that video card. I am not sure which version of BOINC has attempted to fix those issues.

This seems to be most possible but this is strange no one else was being reported this problem,

So this means that we will have to wait for such version of Boinc Manager which will fix this...

Thank for all you comments.

Well, they already complained ... :)

That is why there is a fix pending ...

CC4.45 has the fix included, but the science applications also need their own fix. As said by Stick, Einstein has a Beta application that will fix this problem. Look here for how to install it.

Seti's application 4.18 has the fix included. If you run any of Seti's optimized apps, they don't link to the graphics libraries, thus have no graphics.
LHC's application sixtrack 4.67 has functional graphics.
