I wanted to volunteer for "World Community Grid" as "Joe Bloggs" (which is my name for all the other projects I joined) but it asked me to create an account separately and Joe Bloggs was already taken there. Even though WCG is listed as a BOINC project its account system seems to be separate from the others. I haven't got any WUs validated by WCG yet so I don't know if credits they generate would show up under my account, but if I eg go to www.allprojectstats.com I don't see WCG anywhere on the page. http://www.allprojectstats.com/showuser.php?id=aba16ba1f5bb2bd84755090726fd1205 Also what about projects not listed on BOINC at all? Like Folding@home? |

Folding@home does not use the BOINC platform. That is why it is not listed in BOINC. You can crunch Folding@home alongside BOINC though you must take measures to ensure that the number of CPU intensive tasks running on your system does not exceed the number of CPU cores in your computer. WCG uses BOINC but they have modified it to some extent and by doing so they have placed themselves outside of mainstream BOINC. One gets the impression we mainstreamers are not good enough for them. If you have trouble with WCG it is best to ask about it at their forum. Here it's mostly mainstream BOINC. |

I found http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewmember?member=Joe+Bloggs, which shows that someone, probably you, made that account on Jan 2, 2006 3:47:27 PM So what you could do is go to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/login/forgotPassword.do, fill in your nickname and click the submit button, then see if it gives you a challenge, or send you an email. If the latter, check all your (old) email addresses if something from WCG comes in. Don't forget to check the spam box as well. Also what about projects not listed on BOINC at all? Like Folding@home? What about them? They're not of the BOINC franchise, so to say, so any credits, points, golden doubloons or platinum records you get with them won't show up on any BOINC statistics, as those are for BOINC projects only. |

Thanks Ageless, but I only joined BOINC on 2012-12-30. That Joe Bloggs is not me. I registered as Joe Bloggs on all other BOINC projects but because that name's already taken on WCG I registered as Joe0Bloggs there. As of this moment "Joe0Bloggs" doesn't even show up in a BOINC user search? lol@platinum records If I just want records I'd just keep running Collatz Conjecture on my two GPUs. The amount of points I get for multiplying by 3 and dividing by 2 (rinse and repeat) is so high it's totally broken. It's only run for 1 day on the usual even split resource allocation and it's already taken over half of the total "work" I've done since joining. Still I'd love to contribute to mankind and get some of those platinum records along the way ;) Which is why attaching my WCG account to my usual BOINC account is appealing; seems it should be easy enough. If it's not possible, well, it wouldn't stop me from running it. edit: Thanks kdsjsdj, I'll ask there if the problem persists. WCG has started showing up under my account at free-dc.org so it's probably sorting itself out. |

At mainstream BOINC projects you can create as many accounts as you want with the same name. The project doesn't care what the name is. All that is required is that no 2 accounts have the same email address. There can be 1,000 Joe Bloggs as long as each one has a different email address. That is because accounts are identified by their email address not the user name. (Actually it's a unique identifier called the CPID derived from your email and the date plus the number of freckles on Linsay Lohan's nose or something like that but in essence it's your email address) That's the way it works at mainstream BOINC projects and the concept extends to the stats sites too. WCG is not mainstream. If what you have told us here is correct, if you did what you say you did, then it sounds like maybe WCG is different from the mainstream regarding account creation in addition to its other oddities and does not permit more than 1 account per name. I have no proof whether you did or did not attempt to register Joe Bloggs the way you said you did. I have only your word and we see many times that a poster will swear up and down that "I did it" or "I did not do that" but when we probe and gather more evidence it's obvious he is confused and did what he claims he did not do. No problem. We're human, we do things and later forget we did it. Or we intend to do A but we actually do B and never realize it and swear we did A. Been there and done it myself more than once. So.... it could be your confusion or it could be WCG weirdness, the jury is still out on that, IMHO. Don't be surprised if you run into more weirdness before this is over. It's nothing new here. |

Well I registered as Joe0Bloggs with the same email as Joe Bloggs elsewhere WCG is now showing up on all the stats sites under my ID. It was probably just a delay in update. So yeah, it looks like as long as the email is the same everything works out. Thanks! |
