Famous people? Most UK people will know of the old TV variety show Sunday Night at the London Palladium produced by Val Parnell. His brother was Jack Parnell, who had quite a famous orchestra. One night in the mid 80's he was a guest at the private golf club where my other half worked as a Silver Service waitress, and somehow he and his Manager gave her a lift home, and was invited in for coffee. He saw my twin console electronic organ with foot pedals and said, oh do you play? I said no not at all really. But I switched it on and he tinkered about on it for a little while.

Not really a claim to fame, but lovely man to meet. I've met and shaken hands with three Cabinet Ministers and the DPM, but I'll gloss over that!

I've directly worked for several Cabinet Ministers, Mo Mowlam was my favourite, but that's all I can say because apparently I signed the official secrets act. I was working on a press conference for Tessa Jowell when the camera lights set off the sprinkler system and flooded everyone out and I've been nearly run over by the Prime Minister (Blair at the time) of more than one occasion. Gordon Brown worked down the hallway and I saw him a lot but never shook his hand. Michael Meacher once told me I reminded him of the Queen Mum, I think he meant it kindly, but I'm still offended to this day. I saw all of the Cabinet Ministers regularly as I worked downstairs from the Cabinet Meeting room.

Outrage now, but I did manage to catch some MB WU's for my dry host before it. Sadly most of them are shorties, so probably I'm gonna be out of work again...

Yes I had to as well when I worked for one of the four public utilities, and it lasts for life. There are things I know that I cannot say. I have also signed a non-disclosure agreement as I work at my local MP's office.

LMAO...anyone who knows I worked for the Civil Service would know that (and I've never kept that a secret. It's on my resume along with what departments I worked for and what I did there)...and they would also know that unless I worked for the Intelligence Committee (which I didn't because there security clearance was apparently very invasive and they would have grilled my whole family. I had no wish to go through it) then, as Chris pointed out, I know nothing more than what would make good gossip, and anything else would be seriously out of date and released under the FOI act anyway under the 10 year rule by now.

I can only imagine you have a Hollywood view of the way government works if you think every Civil Servant has access to MI6 Files. LOL!

The real reason for security clearance is that they want to know if there is anything we could have been blackmailed for in order to release secret information...which of course I have no access to now anyway. As I don't have a secret gambling or drugs problem I think I'll be fine.

I run more real risk by posting my opinions on the internet while openly female, but you've never shown any concern for my welfare over that.

Do try to be a bit realistic Gary. I retired 14 years ago, anything I knew at the time the Russians knew 10 years before, and anything I know now is so out of date as to be worthless. But nevertheless the principle of State Security has to be upheld.

Did not know you were only a political file clerk, so the secrets you know are who ran around with their underwear on their head. People I've met, worked for our equivalents of MI5 & MI6.

During my government service I was on 'a need to know'
security regime. What it means is they told me nothing.
I still don't know a whole lot even to this day.
In fact some of my work was so secret, that most times
even I didn't know what I was doing.
