I am relatively new in BOINC, so I am sorry if this was already suggested: I have a 8 CPU laptop. When I am working with it, usually the most of the processors are idle. So I activate BOINC to work with 1 to 4 CPUs but I keep the GPU for me, because when BOINC works on it, the screen blinks sometimes. When I leave and the computer is on, BOINC could use the whole system, 8 CPUs and the GPU. May the BOINC Manager be developed to handle two profiles, computer idle and computer active? or even more? Thanks for your wonderful work. |

It's already in the to do list, but no estimate as to when it's going to be done. |

You might try adjusting your computing preferences. It's not a perfect solution, but it gives you most of what you want. I, too, found that allowing the GPU to compute causes me problems when I am working, so I set "Suspend GPU work while computer is in use?" to yes. I find that BOINC gets out of the way well enough that I don't need to "Suspend work while computer is in use". Since it's a laptop, you might want to "Suspend work while computer is on battery Power" to give you more work time before the battery needs recharging. Just go to one of your projects web sites, and it's there under "Preferences". |
