Does anyone know if the current version of BOINC (7.0.28 x64) supports Windows 8?

Yes, althrough Boinc 7.0.30 has further fixes, but since that was retracted, best to install Boinc 7.0.38, links are in the Boinc 7 Changelog thread,

Well, it doesn't support Windows 8. Only BOINC version that even starts on a Windows 8 x64 OS is the alpha (7.0.42). I wouldn't call the alpha version working either.

E: v7.0.28 BOINC tray starts, but nothing is shown to the user. After about a minute, the process disappears from running tasks. v7.0.38 was probably some alpha version at the time?

WCG, which is prepping to endorse 7.0.xx [auditing code / debugging for specific WCG environment on BOINC server 701], has a sticky post up over all forums, that W8 and OS-X Lion at least require 7.0.31 when clean installed. When there was an upgrade from a previous Windows, earlier BOINC versions may install, since the limited rights user accounts for BOINC were then already created.

Whilst, WCG is field testing 7.0.42 for the app_config.xml feature they had added as of this version. It does a superior job to app_info.xml, where hopefully the final endorsed release will read in the file same way as it can with cc_config.xml. Many at WCG have adopted 7.0.42 for the GPU control side of crunching without issue [except for those that don't read the manual].

Summary, 7.0.42 is doing quite well for the majority, some minor bugs to be fixed in an upcoming test build.

Hi guys.

I am using the last development version 7.0.52 with windows 8 and to date the following bugs persist:

- The CPU processing will still take place even tough I have instructed Boinc not to do any work while user is using the computer. Only GPU will not do any work.
- If I allow the GPU to work and then I try to stop it, then it will soft crash the Nvidia Driver (latest version).

Thanks a lot and lets hope you will come with an official version sometime soon, as with the previous bugs its very unstable to use it.

Hi,

I have Boinc Manager 7.0.28 x64 running fine with Windows 8 Pro x64. Currently crunching WCG work units (CPU and GPU). Maybe some Windows updates have helped???

Just started back using seti@home again. While on the subject of probs with new operating systems---is there any way to recover credits for past work done--back in the era of windows 98 and windows NT I ran months if not years ---had a problem with an OS upgrade and could not reconnect ---"no such email on file" and so forth. Yes--I do remember the email address and password I was using back then.

If you're still got the old email address and password you should just be able to log onto that account, if that doesn't work, you should be able to link a Seti classic account to your new account, check out your Account page.
