Mods: Not sure if this question really belongs in Manager section. If not please move it to appropriate section. Is there any way to make boinc manager 1) stop getting notices from projects and 2) stop displaying them in the "Notices"-tab in manager? 1) is the most important for me, because of very limited bandwidth. Some might say that isn't a problem since it's just text, but projects can also send pics (einstein has done at least once that I saw) and afaik also video through notices. I don't wish to waste my bandwidth on such things. At least an option to only receive text would be most helpful... |

You could probably make the Notices directory and all files within it read-only, that would stop the notices. However, the only thing that you get sent is HTML code, thus any pictures therein is just a link. Meaning, you don't get sent the picture. I'd think that just by surfing the internet that you'll use a lot more bandwidth by looking at advertisements than you would ever get through the Notices. But that said, I'll ask the developers if there's a off-option coming. |

I'll try that, thanks :) However, the only thing that you get sent is HTML code, thus any pictures therein is just a link. Meaning, you don't get sent the picture. Well, the picture was showing in the notices tab, so it must have then been retrieved when I clicked on the tab :( This was some months ago, with a previous version, so this behavior might have changed since. I'd think that just by surfing the internet that you'll use a lot more bandwidth by looking at advertisements than you would ever get through the Notices. Nope, no advertisements here. That's what AdBlockPlus, Ghostery etc. is for. The limited bandwidth (1GB per 30 days, up and down combined, speed max 10KB/s) is when I'm out of the capital city in the non-western country I now live in, which is quite often. I surf as little as possible then, mostly just checking email. But that said, I'll ask the developers if there's a off-option coming. Thanks :) |

David answered me: There's no way to turn off the downloading of notices. They are tiny pieces of HTML. No video is ever shown. Images are downloaded only if you actually look at a notice. |

Ok, that I can live with: Simply not click on the notices-tab :) The reason I also wrote about video, was because I saw it mentioned on one of the mailing-lists some months ago in connection with the notices-tab... seems I probably misunderstood something. Thanks for your help, Ageless :) |
