Directly from Martin's fingers to my inbox :)

I have an approximate schedule for the move of qmc@home from Münster to Bonn now. There will be no new work units after the ones currently left on the server. Roughly at the beginning of October we will shut down the server in Münster. We will then make a break until the end of October before we officially start again with the new server. This is because I would like to use the opportunity to clean up all the stuff left over from several years and run some tests on the new server. Unfortunately all users have to change to a new project URL at some point, but I hope to be able to keep the old one working for some time. The new project URL is qmcathome.org (to avoid similar problems in the future), but there's no content on that page yet.

Any news on the status of this move? Last info I saw, they expected to complete by the end of January 2013.

Nothing on the new url yet...

Give him a week or two. He's totally redesigned the site and just needs the time to push it live.

He sent me a preview and it looks awesome.

Does this mean that QMC@Home will be back on soon?

A bit offtopic, but is this the same Martin who was connected to QuantumFire?
As in your post

QMC is back! It has 4 apps: 3 related to Quantum Medicinal Chemistry and 1 called Clean Mobility that analyzes new materials for e-vehicle batteries.

I am currently running the cleanmobility app. With an i5-2410M it seems like it will take forever... initial estimate of 75 hours, after 13.5 hours it has processed only 2%!!! And so far it has checkpointed only once, at 9 hours.

I am wondering if I should just abort this WU. The server status processing times: 5.20 [ave] (0.24 - 23.59) [min-max].

I don't like the fact that their forums are not up an running and that their main page is just a feeder for joining.

Edit: opening up the task manager the app shows up as using over 50% of my cpu then quickly goes down to 25%...hmmmm. I am running BOINC at 75% to give Bitcoin Utopia some breathing room. Why is this app trying to use it?

One of the test workunits finally checkpointed at 1% after almost 14 hours of run-time on one of my PC's

I have sent an email to the project admin/scientist Martin Korth, asking when the project forums will return, mentioned the extremely long run times and lack of reasonable checkpoint times. I will post back when I hear anything from him.

Checkpointed at 16.5 hours (4%) and at 24 hours (6%)...

I might as well be running CPDN and get the trickle credit.

Edit: checking the list of users, so far not a single WU completed and validated and gave out credit (since restart of the project).

Check the top computers list, and you will see that the tasks complete and credit is received.

A few days ago I sent Martin Korth (Project Scientist / Administrator) an email with several observations and questions about the web site and project/tasks::

1) There is no forums at the web site as of yet. How soon will the forums return so we can post questions, problems, etc we have encountered with the software?
2) The cleanmobility.now 605 "test" tasks appear to be exceptionally long running. I have it running on 3 of my PC's and after 14+ hours one has make it to 2% completed, and the other two have restarted several times and going back to 0% completed. At this rate it will take around 700 hours to complete, which will be way past the deadline due dates. Will tasks speed up / get faster as they progress thru the compute to 100% completion?
3) The cleanmobility.now 605 "test" tasks checkpointing is way too long. It seems to checkpoint only at 1% intervals, therefore you have wasted many hours of CPU time when they restart from the last checkpoint (if any). Will future versions have checkpointing enabled more often than 1% intervals?

and received the following reply:

thanks a lot for supporting our research already at this early stage - your feedback is very much appreciated!
1) The forum will be going online with the offical project release in September.
2) The progress reporting of the app is not very good yet, average rutimes are about 1 day.
3) We work on improving the checkpointing and aim at much shorter interval times.
Best wishes & thanks again,
Martin

Patience, patience... ;-) It will probably finish and not be cancelled by the server, even if it goes beyond the deadline. I've run several that took well over 100 hours to complete. One went several hours past the deadline and eventually completed/reported/validated just fine.

As noted elsewhere, you can't rely on the fraction completed shown in the BOINC manager. I saw some tasks bounce all over the place and then, all of a sudden, complete. I don't think I ever saw one that went beyond 60%.

Cheers,

MarkR

So I set the diskspace allowed higher as I'd been told time and again that via notices that QMC needed 4.7GB or so, and then a few WU's arrived that have a x86_64.exe suffix in the application, but Task Manager shows them with *32 i.e. processing in 32 bits. Looking for info, it appears there's no forum to ask questions. http://qmcathome.org/forum_user_posts.php ... a failing URL from the account page and a notice on HOME that there's no forum. Anyone knows where to get feedback?

edit: BTW, the work unit is a CMN, which I assume to be a Clean Mobility one.

Some people have gotten feedback by email from the project scientist/admin. Go to the new project home page and click "Contact" at the bottom right.

Yes, seen that, but was not exactly waiting on email exchanges. Meantime looked over at BOINCstats last 40 days http://boincstats.com/en/stats/23/project/detail/lastDays which implied that whatever is send out is not processed for stats... 48 hour+ units Clean Mobility Now alright. Actually after 3:22 hours it's at 7.3%, so it's more like 3 days none stop, and in that time no checkpointing recorded [BOINCTasks]... let's pray ENEL does not have an out in the next 3 days [we had one this morning, long enough to reset everything... like a unpredictable weekly occurrence, so only suitable for devices that have a good auto-hibernation when battery is drained.

BTW, so far peak memory usages are modest at 266MB.

September has now expired and there still is no stats being exported or a user forum available for QMC/Clean Mobility at the project web site.

Has anyone seen/heard anything from the Project Scientist/Administrator Martin Korth when stats will export or when there will be forums at project web site?
