Ok this is something that i've been able to fix on previous distro's but i'm baffled with manager not being able to connect with client...

OS; I've just installed mandriva 2006 x86_64
installed boinc..
had about 20 different goes at gettin manager going...
finally got it to connect and logged seti on and xtrem..
it loaded everything ok...
then i stopped the service, including the client...
installed boinc calibration and optimized seti..
then restarted boinc...
it gave the normal errors and re-benchmarkings..
went to start manager and again wont connect...
another 20 goes...
i've got the client running and so far so good but..
i would like to get the manager working...

any ideas people..
i've run out of them..

Find the file gui_rpc_auth.cfg and edit it. There will be a 32 character hexadecimal "password" in it. Take it out and save the file.

Start Boinc Manager.
When given the error, click No or Cancel.
Go to File->Select computer.
Fill in localhost for computer.
Leave the password blank. Hit OK.

tried that when i first had problems...even put localhost in remote_hosts.cfg file...
when you remove password from gui_rpc_auth.cfg you also required pressing crt/return key to represent no password..
this is what i'm getting in the error list...

ok...not cured for that distro but got ubuntu x86_64 working great..
now just have to change to kde and i'll be happy then...
if any one does have any solutions for mandriva 2006 x86_64 not being able to run the manager, then please reply to this thread...
and does any one know what FC4 x86_64 is like with boinc...
i'm trying out different distro's to find what is most suitable for my pc..so far i have mandriva 64 and 32 plus ubuntu 64 and 32 and win-xp all on 2 drives with space for FC4...
mandriva 64 is the only one that has given me any drama's...

Then put in a password of your own making in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file.

just an update;
being absolutely smart, the way i can be...
i installed 5 os's with different results of performance...
everyone says try fedorer...
so i did...never again...the grub damaged my mbr some how and it would not recognise the other os's...
so i saved my original mandriva and the small windows partition as well...could not get into the other os's...well no great loss just time...
reinstalled ubuntu 64 as i like it...(always thought debian was cool anyway)...
now everything is sweet again till i optimized seti...
now i got the same b*&^dy problem...argh....
i have tried all ur suggestions(which is cool cause its not in any list)...
and the ones that normally would work when it goes nuts...
but to no avail...

this may be due to something else as it is refering to gdk....

here is the faults...
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C

Gdk-WARNING **: can not set locale modifiers
connect: Operation now in progress
Nonce not found
connect: Operation now in progress

so now any ideas...its got my mind stuffed now...
i roughly have an idea but not prepared to stuff around...
just going to find what this refeers to first...
