Go to this thread. Substitute the '5.3.26' to '5.3.31' in the message. You may wish to use the recommended stable 5.2.13 version.

If you're a windows user, make sure boinc.scr is listed under "internet access" of your firewall. It needs comms to work. When I install a new version of boinc, i'm prompted twice by mcafee, once for boinc.mgr, and once for boinc.exe. Then I have to go to "start" "control panel", then "display", then click on the "screensaver" tab. Once I click screensaver, then mcafee prompts me for boinc.scr access.

When I insall BOINC I specify that I dont want it as the default screen saver as it has problems with Password on exit of the screensaver on an NT based machine. I dont know about 5.4.x though, can anyone say?

Rom has worked on several screensaver issues between 5.4.0 and 5.4.3
