Hello, my name is Pop Horea-Vasile from Romania. I'm running now Boinc on second host, that is an pentium at 1.8 GHz, with windows xp sp3 as OS. I've installed and unistall several programs regarding cpu load and temperature. Boinc is now running at only 20% load on cpu. The settings are at 100% but still not doing at that load. Please assist me on solutioning this problem. Thank you. |

BOINC itself (boinc.exe) should not use any CPU cycles after doing the benchmarks. BOINC Manager (boincmgr.exe) should only use about 1% every so often, for updating things the client does in real time. So, that begs the question, what do you see taking that load? Do you have any project added? If so, which one? Does it have work actually on the machine, or is it still downloading it all? If there's work on the machine, what kind of work? Just CPU or also GPU? How many cores does your Pentium have, and does it do hyper-threading? When in Windows Task Manager->Performance, how many windows are there in the CPU Usage history section? |

Have 3 projects added: seti, milkyway and freehal. It has work to do and it's doing. It is an pentium 1.8 GHz, single cpu, socket 478. No GPUs. So, in task manager it shows that cpu it's working at 20% not 100% as it is set on BOINC. That is the problem. |

Can you show the processes tab please, with the option to "show processes from all users" on? |

What Boinc version are you running? You're running a non-CPU intensive app, and a Seti 6.03 CPU app, the Stock 6.03 CPU app has been known to stall on some CPUs (effectively meaning only the non-CPU intensive app is running), try restarting Boinc, Claggy |

I've seen that is is a problem with seti. It says that it returned 0. I've restarted boinc several times. |

When requesting help... When you're requesting help on these forums, please, always be so kind as to give information about which BOINC version you run (See Help->About BOINC in BOINC Manager), about your system, the projects you are attached to and what you have done so far to try to remedy the problem. No, I am not going to use whatever remote access thingy to check things on your computer. Now, Claggy has a point, try his help first. Never hurts. As for the Windows task manager window, you can resize that. It can even be made screen filling (maximized). It can also be shown by CPU usage, by (double-)clicking on the column CPU, so all high CPU cycles usage applications are showing at the top of the screen. Again, at "show processes for all user". |

Can you please navigate to your BOINC Data directory and post the contents of the global_prefs.xml file and if it exists the contents of global_prefs_oberride.xml? These files can be opened with Notepad or Wordpad, no need to use an XML editor. The data directory is at default at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\ in WinXP. It may be hidden, so either put the path to it directly into Windows Explorer, or instruct Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders. |

It all looks OK, so the only thing I can think of is some corruption somewhere. To fix that, Clear the local preferences (Advanced view->Tools->Computing preferences, Clear button) and reload the on line preferences (Advanced view->Projects tab->Select either Milkyway or Seti and click Update). And otherwise it's some process that's running amok under the main admin's account, that you can't see, unless you log in as administrator. |

Finally I solved the problem. I think you are very curious about it. SO... it was a thread installed or I don't now were it came from. I found it on servicies in control panel. It was not permited the overload on cpu. So, I disabled and now I'm back with 100% computation on cpu. Be aware of monitoring cpu overload with title Thread on servicies. Anyway, thank you for the support. PS: It is an addon software not specific for Boinc. Seems that I installed and didn't remebered about it. |
