I have configured my BOINC jobs to run only after the computer is idle for 10 minutes. When I get on the computer, it takes several minutes to gain control of the keyboard and monitor. I then see in the task manager my BOINC jobs continuing to run in the background. This bogs my computer down so much I have to manually suspend the BOINC jobs and kill all the processes.

This started happening when I upgraded to Windows 7, didn't have this problem in XP.

Has anyone else seen this?

Jim

Do you still have set "Run based on preferences" in your Activity menu?

When checking in Windows Task Manager, is the process boinctray.exe running?
If it isn't, start it by navigating to your BOINC programs directory, default at C:\Program Files\BOINC\ and (double-)clicking on boinctray.exe

This is the idle detection program that BOINC needs to use under Windows 7 and Vista. It does not start with BOINC, but only from the registry. So it only starts after a reboot.

Yes, boinctray.exe is running. So are several BOINC projects
(milkyway_separation_1.00_windows_intelx86.exe, camb_2.16_windows_intelx86.exe, etc).

Also the CPU percentage column for all of my jobs is "00", except for updater which is "01".

I have seen on other blogs that this is a problem in Windows 7. I wonder if this is the cause.
