I get the impression that there are quite a few projects for protein folding. Without too much looking i know of rosetta@home, protenom folding under the world community grid umbrella and there is of course FAH which while not a boinc project is working on the same problem. Is there a risk that these projects overlap ? that we do the same processing more than once ? or does each work on a different area of protein folding ?

There is also GPUgrid. As the name implies they use GPU's exclusively. Currently it's only Nvidia ones but they are working on an ATI app.

They have been working on different proteins such as HIV and cancer ones.

So that's 4 projects that do protein folding. Do we know how they differ ? from what i understand it is a central part of many researches for cures so I'm guessing they all explore different aspects or are we doing it all 2-4 times over ?

Thats a really good question!

I dont think these projects overlap. Because the Institutes are everywhere on the world with different purposes, so they work on different area indeed.

I wonder if they all use the same type of calculations. If so then so many others could also use GPU processing....
