Hi friends... Here is the new MW update thread. Due to the fact that I don't feel well I am going to wait until Wednesday to post more info. I also need to flesh out some details first. Thx for your patience |

Thanks Blurf for starting a new thread but instead of Milkyway Updates it should have been Milkyway Chronic Project Outages. By Wednesday the due dates will have expired. :) We are all waiting for updates. Regards. |

Blurf -- do the folks at MW have any ideas as to the underlying problem with the database? I notice the project was live for a bit this morning -- but not now. Also, I noted that folks indicated the problems started just after they left for Thanksgiving break -- the implication there is they left early on Tuesday then since the problems started then. |

Actually with the server back up & the website up, I will now have this thread locked. Further discussion can resume on the MW forum |

Update from Dr. Newberg: A new server has been ordered. Because delivery times are slow now (due to flooding in Thailand producing slow delivery times for disks), the estimated ship date is December 29, which means we do not expect to get the new server running until the middle to end of January 2012. We will keep watching the current server for repeats of previous software glitches, and hopefully will keep that server running smoothly for the next two months. |

Well, perhaps this thread should stay alive until the new server arrives, is configured, and has some stable run time. With the holidays fast approaching -- which means less onsite support at RPI for sure, I suspect we may have some outages which take longer to resolve than all of us would hope. This thread will provide folks a place to post comments outside of the general project outage thread. |

12/27-The new server is in, and we'll be migrating everything over to it this week. We expect to have everything done Tuesday or Wednesday next week. We are expecting to be able to move the entire database over, so we don't expect that you'll lose any work or credit during the transition. Sometime along the way we'll be shutting down the old server for a period of time while we migrate the database over, and redirect milkyway.cs.rpi.edu over to the new machine. |

After the project was down, it is running again, I can no longer log in to MW. Have others this too? |
