Volunteer supplied posts about project outages will continue to appear here. Please keep it on topic, post as much about the project outage itself or return of the project only. Want to have an in-depth discussion? There's a whole forum outside this thread that you can start a new thread in. May we please ask that when you post, to do so without adding your signature? With thanks. To do so, when you make a post in this thread, uncheck the "Add my signature to this reply" and then make your post. Your signature will still be enabled on other posts, just not this one. You can also edit your post during an hour and take the signature out. We ask that you post without a signature to keep the purpose of this thread clear: News about project outages, not about how many credits you have or what team you want us to join. It's not that difficult to do and it gives the moderators even less work to do, as we don't have to remove your post. So please... |

Note, that MW remains unavailable still (1:30PM) east coast time. This is the longest outage for MW in quite some time. I wonder what the issue(s) are? |

Regarding the Milkyway situation---Currently, the machine is running, and we are able to log in and check on processes, but the database is overloading. The website was definitely up this morning for a period of time. The overload is the point of the ongoing investigation. |

Is there any hopeful news forthcoming regarding MW outage? |

MW is now beginning the second week of its outage. I am sure that the MW admins and volunteers are even more frustrated by the lack of resolution than regular users. I suppose it would be a good thing if we (users) could see some indication of progress at least with having an understanding of the nature of the problem. |

Barry, I agree. Not the first time I've felt that way. Having all the eggs in one basket isn't a good plan. It's very easy (and free) to set up Facebook and Twitter accounts that are linked. You don't even need access to a computer to keep folks updated on a problem since one SMS text from a cell phone can immediately update Facebook and Twitter status. There are also a number of active BOINC users on G+ so setting up a circle there would be easy enough for projects to do. (I've not linked a cell/sms to G+ yet so I'm not sure if they allow updating that way.) Of course, the problem there is that every project should use the same method for updates so that crunchers know where to "tune in" when there are issues. No offense to the folks that run the BOINC forums, but this wasn't the first place I thought to look when the Milkyway site went down. |

We are having physical machine issues, Barry. Your indication of our efforts will be what is posted here until we're back up. I'm giving you what I get. Meanwhile I'm home sick and am going back to bed ADD: Just spoke to Heidi Newberg. There is a meeting at 1pm EST today with everyone involved in the project. She will be emailing me an update afterwards. I may not get to it immediately. This is looking more and more like a Database-vs-O/S issue. We may just need to take the Winter break and move the entire system to a new server with an updated O/S. Problem with that is we have a low level of staff on this project. More info as it becomes available |

Did Seti leave the realm of worldly projects, or is it me? ;-) |

Nope, they are totally, home page and all, in MW condition. For SETI, the post maintenance recovery phase after their Tuesday down time has gotten more troublesome over the past month. Did Seti leave the realm of worldly projects, or is it me? ;-) |

I wouldn't say they are totally in a MW condition, Seti Main uploads, Scheduler Contact and Validation still work, it's just the website and downloads that don't work, Claggy |

Correct -- I see that now. MW is now in something of a ping pong mode - they were actually running an hour ago -- not so at the moment. Is this a game of Whac-a-Mole? It seems as soon as Milky Way@home recovered, Rosetta@home's server crashed. |
