Message 43030 - Posted: 14 Mar 2012, 17:26:09 UTC - in response to Message 42519.

Spinhenge last posted a status update six weeks ago.-- though without a schedule of when they will have new work (originally they had suggested early January, but the update leaves the implication that new work may well be months away simply by restating plans first indicated in September).

Absent any further information on the website, it may simply be a case of no available resources to move forward from September. Back then they were 'three months' away from restarting. At this point they are still 'three months away from restarting *once they are able to cobble together resources*. The possibility exists that the project may simply fade into the night.

Even should they resurface this summer, the long hiatus, and limited status information provided would likely mean they would need to rebuild a user base from scratch as users over a 9 month (or longer) gap of activity simply move on to operational pastures.

The Boinc wiki is having problems...

Yes, but for me the "User manual" page loads, even though after a rather long time (several minutes).

The BOINC Wiki was under attack by spammers. MySQL was at 700% CPU, which crashed the database. Rom will restart everything in the morning, when things have quieted down. I suppose I'll go in after that and remove all those accounts we already suspected to be spammers. ;-)

Looks like a new attack is happening. Where the Wiki was half and half available to us earlier, it's now completely gone again. Oh well, then we will not update the documentation...

David restarted MySQL this time. It had well over 10,000 queries going. Check it before it's down again.

Collatz has been offline for the past 12 hours or so. For Collatz that is an unusually long outage.

Still offline this evening -- might take until after the weekend (I'm guessing it might be something Comcastish).

Collatz remains dark -- no information as to the issue there. I recognize that these BOINC message boards regarding 'News on Project Outages' are not the most effective location for getting and sharing news on project outages (it seems that either project admins are unaware of this locale or regularly have other things on their plate). It would be nice if this were not the case.

FreeHal will be down until further notice:

In recent days, apparently carried out on my home computer via a Trojan horse hacker attacks. According to current information, the server FreeHAL the project were not affected, but these were also the end of March seized by the police and possibly be used as evidence...

Don't know about that, I do know my Mac reported computation errors on all the units it is waiting to report. The computer is verifying on other projects. Perhaps it is more than the firewall.

My last WU from the project also ended in a comp error. You maybe onto something.
