I can also get programs to run in the command prompt window.) |

Well, I discovered if I open a command prompt, run "C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boinc.exe" and then go to start, run, "C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boincmgr" the manager loads and runs normally, as long as I keep the command prompt window open. (Boinc can not be in any start menus). Not ideal, but at least I can use it for now. |

Tim, That is essentially what works for me. The first time, I just deleted BOINC from the startup folder. Later, on the next install, in the configuration screen, I unticked the "Run at logon" checkbox, and it has worked fine ever since (over a year now). :-) There are other workarounds for the problem, for example, editing the "gui_rpc_auth.txt" file, etc. Michael R. I had tried the CFG thing previously, to no avail, but I figured I would try again, and ended up with an incorrect Password message. I opened gui_rpc_auth.cfg with notepad, deleted everything, closed Boinc Manager, and re-opened. It worked. ( I had seen one post saying to put one space and a carriage return in gui_rpc_auth.cfg, but that did not work for me.) |

Heh, that never worked for me either. Not even the deleting of the whole 32 character hexadecimal password and just leaving it at that did. I always have to fill in a password. So go figure how difficult this one is to solve. ;) |
