After I type ./run_manger after starting the core client I get the following message: ./boincmgr: error while loading shared libraries: libboinc.so.6: cannot openshared object file: No such file or directory I tried the recommended version and testing version, both give same message. |

A little more detail, trying this on Lenovo S-10 first Gen netbook. Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit. Tried both BOINC 6.12.34 and 6.13.1 versions. I don't want to use the older version available through package manager because I would like BOINC to be located in it's own directory. The package manager version does work BTW. |

linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00b26000) You're also missing wxwidgets. Since you've installed both from repositories and berkeley and also a 6.13 version which is only for testing purposes you're going to need to do a clean up first. Remove any boinc repository packages you installed, client and gui. Clean out the directory where you installed the berkeley versions. Reinstall 6.12.34 then post back with any problems. I'm having the same problem but on 11.10. I renamed the BOINC folder to BOINC_old and re-installed into a fresh folder and still the same problem. I used apt-file to find the packages except for libnotify.so.1. No package in 11.10 provides that file. 11.04 did though. I'll try the other solutions later and report back. http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/packages/show/360148 - It looks like in the move from 11.04 to 11.10 they've upgraded from libnotify1 to libnotify4. Boinc will run with libnotify4 but it needs to be compiled against it. You can either pester the boinc maintainer at ubuntu to provide an updated boinc package or go down the path of compiling your own version of boinc. I'm having some issuse. I'm sure you can see the issue I'm having from this. :~/boinc_core_release_6_12_34/clientgui$ make g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I../lib -I../api -I../db -I../client -I../tools -I../sched -I../lib/mac -pthread -g -O2 -Wall -MT boincmgr-AccountInfoPage.o -MD -MP -MF .deps/boincmgr-AccountInfoPage.Tpo -c -o boincmgr-AccountInfoPage.o `test -f 'AccountInfoPage.cpp' || echo './'`AccountInfoPage.cpp In file included from AccountInfoPage.cpp:22:0: stdwx.h:48:19: fatal error: wx/wx.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make: *** [boincmgr-AccountInfoPage.o] Error 1 So I did this. $ sudo apt-file search stdwx libxar-dev: /usr/include/xarlib/stdwx.h sudo apt-get install libxar-dev Than I ran this, again. ./configure make And still I can't make boincmgr. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. |

I installed gnome-devel and about a butt load of other devel packages for compiling programs for gnome and GTK. Still I get an error about missing stuff. I don't remember the exact file. I deleted the folder and downgraded back to 6.10.58. I was just being stubborn and making it harder than it had to be. I'll just wait to update when the new one comes out. Thanks for the help though. |

In the short term, people may be able to get the boinc manager to operate by setting a symbolic link to the libnotify that is installed under ubuntu: sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnotify.so.4 /usr/lib/libnotify.so.1 YMMV |

I do not remember where i got this from but the pre-release does work on Ubuntu 11.10! I got a pre-release version (7.0.2) from: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php For Ubuntu 11.10, also install the following packages: apt-get install libwxgtk2.8-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libxss-dev Then it works okay. |
