I now have a Dell PowerEdge Server r710 - it is 'out of the box' without any OS installed. I just want to confirm the setup of the server: 1. Install Linux server software - which type is recommended? In the 'Setting up a BOINC server' page on the BOINC site it hasn't specified that it should be Linux SERVER software and also hasn't recommended which Linux release is preferred. 2. Install the BOINC server VM. Does this approach have any disadvantages? Also, will it mean that the server software mentioned in the BOINC software prerequisites listed in http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/SoftwarePrereqsUnix no longer needs to be installed (as it is contained in the VM)? 3. Can you advise if all of the Dell server's memory should be allocated for the Linux OS? Is the above sufficient to set up the server ready for the running of projects or have I missed anything? |

Development is asking you to sign up to the Boinc_projects email list and send your questions there. Signing up isn't that difficult, it's about as simple as signing up for these forums. Go to the Boinc_projects link I gave you and fill in the email address and name you want to use for the list, fill in a password and click Subscribe. Then go to your email address, click the link in the email you will have gotten from the list and that's it. You're registered to the list now and can send questions to it and get answers from developers and other project admin back. |
