Re-installed Windows 7 32-bits with twin ATI Radeon HD 5830 on a 4-core PC and had a series of random BSODs with log entry: A fatal hardware error has occurred.
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor ID: 3
I have no idea what could be the culprit except that it's hardware related, so I'm suspecting a graphic card bug. However, when BOINC is not running, there are no BSODs. Anyone else with random crashes?
I have the latest driver installed.

Yes, I installed the newest Boinc version 6.10.60, and my computer started having random bluescreen crashes immediately after that whenever Boinc is running.

My system is Windows 7 x64, Intel Core i7 860 (4 core), Nvidia GTX570, ASUS P7P55D Pro, boot drive Corsair F120 SSD. All lates drivers.

Too bad, everything was fine with previous Boinc version. This should be fixed asap.

Sorry, I didn't write it down. I've had three bsods since I installed Boinc 6.10.60. I'll leave it running and see if it bluescreens again.

I have the latest whql Nvidia reference driver for GTX570 (driver version 27061, CUDA version 4000, compute capability 2.0). Windows update is on and all available updates are installed.

Blue Screens will store their information in the Windows Event Viewer.
Start->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer.

Now probably in Custom Views->Administrative Events (takes a while to load), or in Windows Logs->Application or in Windows Logs->System.

Blue Screens show as errors (red).
Did you also install motherboard chipset drivers?

BSODs can also be re-created from the minidump files, using free tools like BlueScreenView.

NDIS.SYS (from your first screenshot) is usually part of a network card driver. The other two are from the (Windows) NT-based O(perating) S(ystem) Kernel.

The BOINC program itself doesn't touch any areas like that, and it's highly unlikely that BOINC itself is directly implicated in the crashes - Windows 7 has lots of security features to keep applications like BOINC away from the heart of the operating system and the hardware drivers.

More likely, one or other of the science applications supplied by the projects you're attached to is making your computer work harder than it has done before, and the extra stress (and possibly heat) is revealing weaknesses or mis-configurations which didn't matter before. Googling your error messages led me to http://windows7forums.com/blue-screen-death-bsod/55435-occasional-ntoskrnl-bsod.html, which is a good example of the kind of things which can go wrong, and the steps you may need to go through to get things working right again.

Probably one of science project engines is the culprit... but then, why did the bsods start after I upgraded to Boinc 6.10.60? I was running the same projects before without any problems for a long time (several months).

I pay attention to cooling and I clean my system from dust regularly. So I don't think that overheating is behind this.

I'll build a new system in the near future, so I won't be investing too much of my time into this. I'll try that memory diagnostics when I have time.

BTW, I just noticed from Action Center reliability history that the first bsod actually happened after Windows updated .NET Framework 4 and 3.5.1., on the same day. Boinc installation was a few days before that. Does Boinc use .NET?
