When I added Einstein@home several days ago, I tried using what I thought was my existing SETI account information to attach the project, but the wizard rejected the login by e-mail.

I then tried to post a question in these forums, but it didn't recognize my e-mail either, not even when I clicked the link to have it send me my account id. I thought this was strange, but went ahead and created an account, not realizing at the time that this account was only for the forums.

I tried to attach again using my e-mail address and the password I knew I had just set, but of course it still wasn'r recognized. Neither was the (new) account id, which I requested by e-mail. But that's because that new account was just for accessing the forums.

So in the end I had to tell the attach wizard to create a new account for Einstein, but it's not clear to me whether this new account is just for Einstein, or a new BOINC account, nor do I know whether the credits from the two projects are going to the same place.

I then figured if I viewed my own stats in the format displayed for the featureed user, I could tell right away if both projects were being accumulated together.

I couldn't find a link anywhere for doing that, so I displayed the featured user and then tried to edit the url to paste in my account id(s). Neither one worked (blank page... no messages). Apparently these results are keyed off a "cross-product" account id. How the heck to I find that??

So, I now apparently have at least three "accounts": the original SETI account, the BOINC message board account, the new Einstein account (probably, though I can't get at it to verify that because their database is down for maintenance), and this "cross-product" account, which may or may not be correctly associated with my SETI and Einstein accounts.

There may be info in this forum covering these issues but I searched and couldn't find it.

So... how do I view my own stats? And if it turns out the Einstein account really is separate from my original SETI account, how do I merge them w/o losing any credits?

For each project, you have to make a new account. this is because they are totally independent of each other. SO you Seti acct name and password won't work here or at E@H.

I'm not totally sure how to explain the cross-project ID. I know that if you only have one machine, they will synch up. And if you have more than one, there is a certain way you have to set things up to make them synch.

The Wiki is your friend in these matters. I don't have the link to the new URL (Paul D. Buck decided it was time to step back from BOINC, but the Wiki has been picked up by a couple of other guys).

Hope this gives you a start at understanding...

Someone who is better versed in this will have to clean up the mess I've probably made :)

As Kathryn said, each project is totally separate. Think of it as Nike (shoes), and Canon (cameras) being different types of products.
Each project has it's own statistics, including credits. Credits and other stats are collected by external sites and added together. Provided users give them something to identify the stats as being theirs! Which is identical names and email addresses for all projects.

As for the cpid, this starts off as being something issued by each project, and not necessarily the same as that from other sites. Provide that all of your projects are on the same computer, as it contacts each project, the cpids will change to the one issued by the last project that you joined. (The latest cpid.)
Projects can be spred across several computers, but I won't confuse you further.

Now that's counter-intuitive, but I suppose the assumption is that the latest computer added is known to be good, while earlier ones may have been retired. Right now I only have the one.

boincsynergy was up, boincstats wasn't. But I did see from boincsynergy's links that Einstein was back up so I logged in and... the cross-product ID shows up in my profile there. It now does in Seti, too, so maybe a cross-product id isn't generated until you have at least two projects. And, that id works for viewing stats, so I guess all my questions have been answered!

Well, that isn't quite right. The cpid that gets slected is the one that has the higher value. So, if you had a cpid of 4 and attached to a new project and that project had generated a cpid of 3 for you, the new project would change to 4.
