is it possible to setup BOINC manager to work on a system, make all the processes but not upload from that system. Take the data to be uploaded, transfer them to a home machine and upload from there! Can this be done? Let me also say that the processing system is not connected to internet but the home system is. So i guess ill have to be making this in two phases. 1. download the processing files from home system 2. tranfer them to the processing system 3. take the processed data from processing system 4. tranfer them to the home system and upload them can this be done? |

As long as you do not use the home system for BOINC at the same time, and you don't mind doing all that legwork, then yes. As you describe. Albeit, it's better to move the complete data directory from the computer that did the downloading to the one doing the processing. Then after processing is done, move the data directory back to the system doing the uploading/reporting/downloading. Work is registered to the hostID of the computer doing the download. That same hostID must also upload/report that work. Hence why you best not use BOINC on that same system, or if you must, jiggle around with data directories. |

youre right, thanx now regarding the "legwork"... some files might need to be replaced when making the transfer of the data files from one computer (processing) to the other (uploading computer). I suppose that if this were to be a problem, that would be a problem for the BoincManager on the uploading computer right? So will there be any probs? |

If you always copy the complete data folder and the uploading computer doesn't do any BOINC processing of its own, there should be no problems. If the uploading computer does BOINC work, be very careful to keep the various data folders separate. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |
