How many GPUs are on that ATI card? If two, that could be the problem. Which Dell Studio XPS do you have explicitly? I could look it up for you. |

XPS 8100 - 1 ATI HD 5700 (Juniper) in PCI-E X16 slot 1 Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT in PCI slot (one PCI-E is covered by the ATI card) (one PCI-E used for wireless internet) Thanks for any insights!! Ed F BTW: I ran prime grid (set for ATI only) and 2 WU's ran at the same time in about 2.25 hrs with 2 "parent" (or whatever they are called) programs feeding them. They appeared to run successfully ??!! |

Now, I can only assume you didn't open that computer, did you? It came to you specced like that? I can only assume that you have 2 ATI cards in there and one Nvidia. There is no 5750 or 5770 with dual GPU. |

open what case?? ;-) My orig ATI card failed and I ask Dell to replace it. While waiting for the replacement I put the (old) Nvidia in so I could continue using the computer. (as long as I was there I added a 1TB drive and Mirrored it to the "c:" drive) This is an ATI 5770. Ed F |

I have a GTX460 and a HD5770 in my PC, GTX460 in the first PCI-X slot, HD5770 in the second, never seen anything like this, What version Catalyst do you have installed?, i assume Cat 10.12 or 11.1, Do you have a Second Monitor plugged into the HD5770, perhaps that splits the HD5770? Claggy |

The ati card only has 1 monitor attached to it, the nvidia has a monitor attached. the "split" ati card appeared BEFORE I attached the monitor to the nvidia card. if by "What version Catalyst do you have installed?" you mean "Catalyst Control Center" or "ccc" I don't know ... I assume the most current version (Dell installed the drivers when fixing the failed old ati card problem). I can't run ccc and give anymore info because ccc and ccc help won't run ... they exit without ANY windows appearing or flashings on the screen. Ed F |

I am seeing the same problem on 2 computers. One has HD5850 + GT240, other one has HD4770 + GTX460. Both run Win 7 64 bit. They were fine until I upgraded from ATI driver 10.12 to 11.3 to try to fix a problem with primegrid WUs erroring out on the ATI cards. Now on both machines BOINC sees 2 cards (Device 0 and Device 1) and schedules 2 tasks to run. They run fine, but the machine is unusable due to slow graphics. During the 11.3 driver install, the monitor displaying the installation (the monitor attached to the ATI card) went blank and the installation process moved to the NVIDIA card/monitor. Looks to me like maybe the ATI install sees the NVIDIA card and thinks it ia a second ATI card as GPU app processing is concerned (maybe both support Open CL?? - NVIDA driver is 260.99) and reports 2 GPUs to BOINC, which then schedules 2 tasks in parallel. |

As noted elsewhere, the following in cc_config.xml works around the problem <cc_config> <options> <ignore_ati_dev>1</ignore_ati_dev> </options> </cc_config> |
