Hi All, First Post. Started BOINCing recently and I'd like to find some machines to add. I would think the world is brimming with old computers people would want me to take off their hands, but I'm not having much luck. I've tried Freecycle and Craigslist free ads. People actually trying to sell their old junk are smokin' crack considering how cheap they are to buy new. Any ideas? John |

I used to go around to different apartment complexes in the neighborhood of the city on the 1st days of the month and check the dumpsters. Most people would leave good furniture and PCs beside the dumpsters. It was like a free yardsale in some complexes. I would also keep up with students in the local colleges and see when the school is getting new PCs. That meant I could talk to the school to buy the old ones or wait till they hit the local surplus or auctions. By constantly working on PCs and networks I also accumulated a lot of parts that I could use to build/fix other PCs that I had obtained and maintain the network. |
