I finished my first SETI work unit using BOINC and received a message "Computation error". It will not leave my machine and I can't get any new work units. I am getting rid of SETI if I can't find a way to fix it. I liked the old software...at least it worked.

This was better posted at the Seti forums, but okay.

It's still in the list, because Boinc cannot get a hold of Seti at this moment, since the Seti project is down. Without telling the project the unit went wrong, you won't be able to get rid of it. So for now have patience, keep an eye on Seti's front page news and wait for that project to come back. You ought to be able to update the project then to get rid of this unit.
