Now, I'll admit, I'm a long-time user of BOINC and SETI@home (before that), and I've got more than a few years' deep computer technology experience...but I'm confused by the "BOINC Screensave Configuration" options in v6.10.56. These are accessed in Windows from the "Display" | "Screen Saver" options. What do the four fields mean, and where are they documented? Does "Never" mean the same as "Do not limit time?" on that screen, or does it mean "Never run this feature?" What is the relationship between "Run BOINC screensaver for" and "Run project screensaver for"? What if BOTH are set to, say, "1 hr"? What is the relationship among all but the first of the four options? Which has priority in evaluation? What would happen if all of them are set to "Never?" -Carol Anne |

Does "Never" mean the same as "Do not limit time?" on that screen, or does it mean "Never run this feature?" It means Disable, do not use at all. What is the relationship between "Run BOINC screensaver for" and "Run project screensaver for"? What if BOTH are set to, say, "1 hr"? BOINC has its own screen saver, it's showing what projects you're attached to, which project is running and how far along you are on the present task9s) for that project. The latter part is in case the project doesn't have its own screen saver application, then you can still follow its progress. If a project does have its own graphics application, it will run for the amount of time you specify as well. If there's more than one project running and both/all have graphics capabilities, you can set how long they'll show here before we switch back to the BOINC screen saver. What is the relationship among all but the first of the four options? Which has priority in evaluation? What would happen if all of them are set to "Never?" None has priority. If you set all to Never, the screen saver would be disabled. |
