Down load of Boinc for my Ubuntu system successful, but it wont let me load it. keep getting this message: "gedit has not been able to detect the character coding. Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file. Select a character coding from the menu and try again." Any help from anyone on how to do this would be nice. Thank you, Pat |

Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file. That's exactly what you are trying to do ;-) The file is a shell archive and has to be started (as can be derived from the suffix) by sh boinc_6.10.56_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh But you shouldn't do that in the /tmp directory, unless you want to install BOINC there.
