make it remote access simpler for those of us who aren't so hot at coding. then again, i haven't really taken the time to figure it out. also, if one computer (a desktop) on a LAN cannot upload its results, it should be able to transfer that via the LAN to a laptop that can then upload the results via an external network. we recently exceeded our upload limits with our isp and my workhorse desktop has about 10 jobs to report. if i could send those results to my laptop, i could then bum my neighbors connection and upload the results, thus avoiding missing any deadlines waiting for my connection to reset. thanks! |

also, if one computer (a desktop) on a LAN cannot upload its results, it should be able to transfer that via the LAN to a laptop that can then upload the results via an external network. That's not possible without copying the whole BOINC Data directory to the other computer with the internet connection, then installing BOINC on that computer, let it upload, report & download and then copying the whole BOINC data directory back to the computer you run the stuff on (don't forget to uninstall the BOINC on the computer with the internet connection, or to stop it doing work there). Work is registered to the computer that downloaded it. That same computer (or another one that's mimicking it) must upload & report the work. If you go the route of copying the BOINC Data directory etc. then do know that both computers must have the same OS and CPU. I.e. both Windows 32bit, both Intel CPUs. Not one with 64bit Windows, one with 32bit Windows, or Linux or OSX... Not one with an Intel CPU the other a Macintosh. BOINC 6.10.56 has a new feature in BOINC Manager->Advanced preferences, where you can set a maximum quota to be used per day, or multiple days. Especially for those people with bandwidth limitations set by the ISP. BOINC will stop uploading/downloading/ work and not send trickles when the bandwidth limit is reached. |
