I am running BOINC 6.10.43 (SETI and Climate Prediction) on Win 7 Pro and the manager never connects with a client. This is true whether I reboot the machine or close the manager and restart it. I am in the boinc_user, boinc_admin and boinc_project groups. I have also set BOINC to only show active tasks. BOINC worked correctly for a couple of days but has not worked at all recently. Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks in advance. |

Check that all parts of BOINC are allowed through your firewall. Also check in Task Manager that the following are running: boinc.exe (the client) boincmgr.exe (the manager) boinctray.exe (monitors mouse/keyboard activity) |

I have disabled my Firewall and just to be safe I have added Permit rules for all of the EXEs in the Boinc folder. I set them to allow all protocols on IP. I still do not connect. Do they all use IP protocols or should any of them be non-IP? I have Windows 7 , McAfree HIPS, BOINC 6.10.18, Widgets 2.8.10 This is a new build and install of BOINC but I would like to move my projects from my old Vista image. I would also like to know what I should move and where it goes in Windows 7. I am not sure what to try. Suggestions? |

I have disabled my Firewall Never disable the firewall! Even if you have a router/modem with hardware firewall, the software firewall gives extra protection on the computer. Do they all use IP protocols or should any of them be non-IP? boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe and boinc.scr (plus boincsvcctrl.exe) use TCP port 31416 on the localhost to communicate between themselves. boinc.exe needs to be able to pass through TCP port 80 and 443 on the internet. |
