Hello everyone,

just wanted to ask if there are plans for integrating the screensaver option into the linux version of the boinc-manager?

Kind regards

The biggest problem with adding "a screen saver for Linux" is the difference between Linux distros. Some run KDE, others run Gnome. Different versions of X and DMs have different requirements as far as screen savers go. Different rules for KDE versus Gnome versus everything else.

It's impossible to get one screen saver to run on all distros out there. Perhaps if Linux users can get the Linux makers to 'standardize' screen savers, that it's possible. But until that time, BOINC will only have a screen saver on Windows and Macintosh OS X.

Its not impossible. If boinc can already draw a window with graphics it cannot be that hard to implement that same code with a little bit of graphic into a screensaver function. What using a simple xorg implementation that would solve the cross issue at least kde and gnome could be implemented since those are the 2 major desktops.
