I have just experienced the same BOINC.MSI problem. I cured it, as suggested, by running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. When I ran the utility, the BOINC MSI showed up as BOINC ".... .19", which I then deleted. I wonder why/how the this version of .MSI had become corrupted as BOINC seems to have been running well, although I noticed that closing down BOINC still left all of the "Projects" up and going, which meant that I had to close them down manually. Is that a clue? |

I wonder why/how the this version of .MSI had become corrupted as BOINC seems to have been running well, That seems to be a windows thing. although I noticed that closing down BOINC still left all of the "Projects" up and going, which meant that I had to close them down manually. Is that a clue? No, that's quite normal. You can stop the project applications by choosing "Shut down connected client..." from the Advanced menu in BOINC manager. If you always want to stop the client when exiting the manager, you'll have to enable the manager's exit dialog (Advanced/Options...) and select the appropriate checkboxes. Since this is a much asked thing, I made a FAQ with screen shots for it: BOINC and science applications continue running when I exit BOINC Manager. |

Since this is a much asked thing, I made a FAQ with screen shots for it: BOINC and science applications continue running when I exit BOINC Manager. Useful. One small comment - the term 'GUI' (for 'Graphical User Interface') is probably unknown to the sort of user this FAQ is aimed at - too many TLAs. I don't know what the ideal solution is, but it seems an increasing number of posters don't demonstrate that they have a clear understanding that there are two quite separate programs - BOINC, and then BOINC Manager to, well, manage it. See, for example, the fairly recent phenomenon of people posting that they have "installed BOINC Manager version such-and-such". |

I don't know what the ideal solution is Re-read and tell me if that's better. :-) |

I don't know what the ideal solution is Yes, I think that's better (in the context). A little education, assuming even less prior knowledge.... |
