I looked through the forums for a couple pages and didn't see anyone else report this problem, so maybe it's just me (i.e. not actually a problem with BOINC). I have a few machines - some Windows; some Fedora - running BOINC 6.10.33 on most Fedora (fc12 x86-PAE) and World Community Grid's custom BOINC 6.2.28 on the Windows boxes. I'm attached to a couple projects (WCG, and the Einstein pulsar search). On one of my Fedora machines (pentium quad core, 4GB DDR2), I installed the 6.10.36 from Fedora's official Updates repository about a month ago... since I did, that one machine always stalls when downloading new work units or uploading results. i.e. if the transfer doesn't finish within a couple minutes, its Status switches to 'Suspended' until I manually select the Transfers tab in BOINC Manager (Advanced view) and use the Retry Now button. Once I do that, if all the transfers do not finish within about 5 minutes they all switch to Suspended status again. Even though they sometimes *say* they will attempt to retry in a certain amount of time, when the countdown ends it just returns to 'Suspended' without actually trying to transfer. I get the same behavior on both Projects, by the way... uploads and downloads go to Suspended on their own (even when the uploads are just 3KB results files, which should transfer in a flash). The other fedora computers (still running 6.10.33) do not exhibit that symptom whatsoever... and until this problem is fixed I'm hesitant to upgrade the others. I also noticed in the linux 6.10.36 build that the Advanced->Options dialog would not open, but it opens fine in 6.10.45... so my only problem with it currently is the Transfers 'suspended' issue. What should be my course of action... uninstall and reinstall the same version? Fall back to 6.10.33? Or is there some other information I can provide to help troubleshoot what is actually going on? For what it's worth, I do use a firewall... though a) it worked fine with previous versions, and b) disabling the firewall makes no difference - the files still switch to 'Suspended.' Thank you. |

Did you check the Activity menu? Is "Network activity always available" selected? Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

Did you check the Activity menu? Is "Network activity always available" selected? BINGO! It was on 'suspended'; I switched that to 'based on preferences' and it immediately started transferring. I don't know how it got switched to 'suspended' - I've never (knowingly) changed that setting. (???) Anyway... Vielen Dank! for the fast reply and fix. |
