Is there a way to tell Bionic not to start running automatically when my computer starts up? It seems that just the bionic client somehow interferes with my graphics card, even if it's paused or not even running. I don't want to stop using the program, but if I can't even restart to test whether not having run the program would fix the problem, I don't think I have a choice other than to uninstall it... :/ |

Since you don't tell what OS you're on, or how you installed BOINC (service install or not), the easiest way is this: Open BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Options->Uncheck "Run Manager at login?" This will only work if you didn't install BOINC as a service. When BOINC is installed as a service, you'll need to set the service to start Manually and not allow BM to start at login. |

Ageless, Thanks for your help, I didn't realize there was a different set of options in the advanced view. However, unchecking that option didn't stop it from running at start up, so I guess I installed it as a service? I'm not really sure what that means. I've been running it for a week or so, so I don't remember the details of the installation process, I don't particularly remember if I was asked about installing as a service or not. I'm running Vista x64, and the 6.10.18 version of the Bonic Manager (downloaded via the 64-bit link). If you could help me set the service to start manually, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! |

That's easily tested. Start->Run, type services.msc and click OK. (You do need to be logged in as an administrator or power user). In the window that opens, check for BOINC (or if you installed the World Community Grid client, World Community Grid BOINC). Double-left click on the entry. In the Start-up type, change from Automatic to Manual. Click Apply, click OK. But... did BOINC Manager still start? For if so, there could be a lingering link to it in your Start->Programs->Startup folder. Check there first, if there's a link to BOINC Manager there, delete it (right-click on it, choose Delete). |

New twist. I don't think it's actually installed as a service; neither of the names you mentioned show up in the services manager. I also checked my startup folder, and there's nothing there either. However, the manager still ran when I restarted, and when I looked at the options again, I found the box had magically re-checked itself. Any idea how to keep this from happening? ***Edit*** Looks like unchecking the box and restarting again worked for some reason? I guess the third time is the charm. Anyway, thanks for all your help! |
