I am running BOINC manager 6.10.18 under Windows 7 64-bit connected to climateprediction.net and SETI@home. The former has two tasks in the Computation Error state and the latter three task Ready to report. Neither seem to want to communicate with their sites - communication gets deferred repeatedly. Hence my work on BOINC related projects has ceased as the computer seems unable to report completed projects and get new work. Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? Yes, reboot ;-) If you already did and need further help, please provide more information; at least the exact error messages, better add the top 20 lines of the BOINC manager Messages tab after a restart. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

cpdn's servers are have been OK for a while. Please post on the cpdn BOINC users forum so that we can look at your computers/models. |

Just we you think it's safe to ... One of the cpdn uploaders (cpdn-upload1.comlab) is now down, as is the Transitioner. It's early AM there now, but perhaps 'Murphy' couldn't sleep. |

The problem has gone on for weeks, and survived several reboots. Okay that are the startup messages (nothing amiss there), now for the messages after a forced update. Gruß, Gundolf |

At least no error messages ;-) However, it would be easier to diagnose if there would be any. :-) What is the content of the Status column in the Projects tab of the manager? Can you find any telltale messages in the project properties? I can't tell exactly for what to look, because I still run BOINC 5.10.45, but I would expect something like "offset" or "delay". Deferrals are both blank on both projects. I tried a project reset and got: 11/02/2010 08:38:00 SETI@home Resetting project 11/02/2010 08:38:07 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/arecibo_181.png 11/02/2010 08:38:12 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_40.png 11/02/2010 08:38:18 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_banner_290.png 11/02/2010 08:38:24 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_ss_290.png 11/02/2010 08:38:30 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/31ja07aa.30544.12342.15.10.171 11/02/2010 08:38:35 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/02ja07ab.24878.12338.5.10.61 11/02/2010 08:38:48 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/01dc06ab.30458.41807.13.10.177 11/02/2010 08:39:00 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/astropulse_5.05_windows_intelx86.exe 11/02/2010 08:39:05 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/astropulse_5.05_AUTHORS 11/02/2010 08:39:12 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/astropulse_5.05_COPYING 11/02/2010 08:39:18 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/astropulse_5.05_COPYRIGHT 11/02/2010 08:39:25 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap_graphics_5.05_windows_intelx86.exe 11/02/2010 08:39:30 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll 11/02/2010 08:39:35 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap405.jpg 11/02/2010 08:39:40 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe 11/02/2010 08:39:46 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe 11/02/2010 08:39:52 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome-6.03_AUTHORS 11/02/2010 08:39:58 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome-6.03_COPYING 11/02/2010 08:40:04 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome-6.03_COPYRIGHT 11/02/2010 08:40:10 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome-6.03_README 11/02/2010 08:40:15 SETI@home [error] Couldn't delete file projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/seti_603.jpg 11/02/2010 08:49:18 SETI@home Resetting project 11/02/2010 08:49:31 climateprediction.net Resetting project I now have no tasks at all. |

That looks like an access rights problem. Try a reinstall of BOINC, including reboot, to get the BOINC users/groups set up correctly. Gruß, Gundolf [edit] I now have no tasks at all. That was to be expected after a reset. What's weird is that no new tasks are requested. Did you try an Update in Projects tab after the reset?[/edit] |

I did try updating. BOINC is now hanging in some way - the manager doesn't seem to be seeing the client. I'm wondering whether I should uninstall and reinstall the client. |

I think it's worth a try. Gruß, Gundolf |

Thanks, I uninstalled and reinstalled before reading your message. However, suddenly things sprang to life! I now have four tasks executing (I have a quad-core machine). I'll see what happens and if I have more problems, will follow your advice. |

BOINC worked fine till SETI@Home completed, then there were the same issues. Update caused BOINC to stop running completely. I followed the advice above and completely removed BOINC, installing it in protected mode/service. This seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for your help. |
