Hi, I'm running Windows 7 32-bit Professional and I have a Kaiser-Baas USB tuner stick (Single Tuner) that seems to work fine except when I have BOINC running. If BOINC is active and tasks are processing, I can start the Live TV function but if I change channels to require the tuner to tune a new frequency (If I go from Channel 1 to Channel 2 and they are from two different frequencies (compared to two channels from the same service frequency)), WMC just shows a black screen. If I suspend BOINC, the channel tunes and works fine. BOINC seems to be the only application that is causing this symptom and it doesn't seem to matter what tasks are running. (I'm running SETI, malariacontrol.net and World Community Grid.) The only way I've found is to reduce the BOINC preferences so that it can't use more than 50% of the CPU (BTW: an intel i5 quad processor with heaps of CPU grunt for this "minor" workload) and I've limited it to 50% of the available CPUS. Is this a "normal" situation or is/are the BOINC application(s) using more resources or not really running in "idle" status so that any other application/facility will pre-empt BOINC? |
